About Me
My name is Rosanna Lin. I'm a psychology major interested in counseling. There isn't a solid, definite reason to why I want to pursue counseling, but it's the only subject I do have interest in so far. I really enjoyed the course, "Introduction to Clinical Psychology," so I decided to take more courses similar to it. The next course that continued to feed my interest was "Identity Formation." Before that course, I despised writing papers of any kind. I couldn't seem to organize my thoughts well enough to create an eloquently written paper, but the papers for "Identity Formation" were much easier for me to write. All I had to do was write papers about the interviews I conducted and what/why I could conclude about the person through the interview. I found all the information, skills, and theories we learned in "Identity Formation" to be very intriguing. Now, I'm excited for the "Loss and Grief: Individual and Family Perspective" and this "Global Project Development" courses I'm currently in. I want to learn how to reach out to various cultures, especially Asian cultures where people don't like to actively seek help.

I think that is awesome that you are interested in counseling. My mom is a counsoler and I have always had an interest in it. I cant wait to get to know you this semester!
ReplyDeleteHey Rosanna Lin, it's great that you were able to find an area that you enjoy writing and learning about. I too have considered becoming a counselor. I have practiced a little in several of my social work classes. I think it's great you are interested in reaching out to Asian cultures, I know it's not usually typical for them to seek help when needed. I look forward to learning more from you.
ReplyDeleteHey :) I think you make a good point about reaching out to persons who don't usually seek help in an active way. It's important to know that those in need are not always those that we hear most.

Rosanna, I'm also a psychology major and I think that taking social work courses is beneficial for those wanting to go to any sort of counseling position. Having experience with people from all sorts of background allows you as a person to be able to understand and empathize with a broader audience. I'm glad you are getting involved!

ReplyDeleteAll I can say is WOW!! That is very inspiring to hear. It sounds like you are very interested in people and this class seems prefect for that.
I want to congratulate you on all your accomplishents I hope that you will be able to make a change in the lives of so many people. It takes a lot of effort to help individuals.
